The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) announced that the environmental contingency due to ozone in Mexico City (CDMX) and the State of Mexico has been lifted, meaning that the Double Hoy No Circula planned for Friday, February 28 has been canceled. CAMe reported that the concentration of ozone particles has decreased in both entities, leading to this decision.
Authorities in the Valley of Mexico urged the population to stay informed about air quality and possible new restrictions on vehicle circulation in the event that another environmental contingency is activated. According to the agency's statement, an improvement in atmospheric conditions is expected due to increased humidity, which will favor the dispersion of pollutants.
Therefore, for Friday, February 28, the Hoy No Circula program will be applied as follows: vehicles with pink, yellow, green, and red stickers will be allowed to circulate; electric, hybrid, or vehicles with ecological plates; those with holograms “00” or “0”; those designated for health services, school transportation, funeral processions, and those driven by persons with disabilities; as well as certain public service vehicles or those with tourist passes.
In cases of environmental contingency, in addition to vehicle circulation restrictions, other measures are implemented to reduce pollution. Health authorities must disseminate recommendations to protect against poor air quality, circulation of official vehicles is restricted, efforts to detect violators of Hoy No Circula are intensified, burning of materials is prohibited, forest fire surveillance is increased, certain urban maintenance activities are canceled, and roadworks that disrupt traffic are suspended.
